Connectors are critical interfaces that must maintain electrical and mechanical performance while exposed to temperature, humidity, condensation, water, dust and fluids. At Envitest Lab, we approach environmental testing as an end-to-end engineering evaluation, supporting applicable requirements of IEC 60512, including climatic sequence testing as per IEC 60512-11-1 and sealing/water-impact testing as per IEC 60512-14-7, based on the applicable product specification.
How We Do It
- Requirement Review: We first understand the connector, application environment, operating limits, applicable standard, test sequence and acceptance criteria.
- Pre-Test Evaluation: The EUT is visually inspected and documented. Baseline parameters such as continuity, contact resistance, insulation resistance, dielectric performance and functional operation are established as applicable.
- Test Preparation: The connector is mounted and configured according to the specified test arrangement, including mating, cabling, sealing and electrical connections.
- Climatic Exposure: The EUT is subjected to the specified temperature, humidity and climatic sequence, with controlled and recorded environmental conditions.
- Water & Sealing Evaluation: Where applicable, water-impact/sealing testing is performed as per IEC 60512-14-7 to evaluate resistance to environmental ingress.
- Environmental Contamination: Depending on the requirement, exposure to dust, sand or application-specific fluids can be evaluated for their effect on seals, materials, contacts and functionality.
- Monitoring: Where required, electrical and functional parameters are monitored during testing to identify intermittent or environment-induced failures.
- Post-Test Evaluation: After recovery, the same critical electrical and functional parameters are measured and compared with the baseline. The EUT is also inspected for corrosion, water ingress, seal deterioration, cracking, deformation or other damage.
- Engineering Assessment: Results are analysed against the applicable acceptance criteria to identify degradation, failure mechanisms and potential areas for improvement.
