What Are Third Party Inspection Services?
Third party inspection services are independent evaluations of products, components, processes or equipment against agreed specifications, applicable standards, contractual requirements or defined acceptance criteria. They help manufacturers, buyers and other stakeholders identify nonconformities, verify quality and document inspection findings before products are accepted, released or delivered.
Envitest specializes in comprehensive assessments that support informed decision-making throughout the product and production lifecycle. Our inspection and evaluation services can support requirements involving product quality, component validation and manufacturing processes. Whether you require product inspection, product quality inspection or detailed process analysis, our technical team provides documented and objective findings to help identify potential nonconformities, evaluate specified requirements and support quality-related decisions.
Product and process auditing work together to strengthen overall quality control and provide a broader view of product and manufacturing performance. Product audits help identify and document nonconforming items at an early stage, while analysis of recurring findings can help identify patterns, support corrective actions and reduce the likelihood of repeat issues. These evaluations can complement product inspection and quality inspection activities by providing additional information about product conformity and the processes that influence it.
Process audits examine how a product or component is manufactured and document nonconformities or deviations that may affect quality, safety or consistency. These may include issues such as safety-related deviations, incorrect machinery settings or other departures from documented process requirements. Process audits support quality control and quality assurance by evaluating whether production activities are being carried out according to established procedures, specifications and applicable requirements.
Envitest carries out Product Audits to assess whether a company’s products or production activities meet defined quality objectives. A product audit focuses on one or more products or services and evaluates their conformity with specified requirements and their fitness for intended use. The findings can help organizations identify nonconforming characteristics, understand recurring quality issues and determine areas where corrective action may be required.
Envitest also carries out Process Audits to evaluate specific processes, activities or functions performed by an organization. During a process audit, the actual process is compared with its documented requirements to identify deviations, nonconformities or areas where process controls may require improvement. This provides organizations with documented findings that can support quality control, corrective action and process consistency.
For broader evaluations, System Audits assess multiple related processes and the interaction between them. For example, an audit may examine how design and manufacturing functions work together and whether the interaction between those functions supports the organization’s defined requirements. This broader assessment helps identify issues that may not be evident when individual processes are evaluated separately.
Product Audit vs Process Audit vs System Audit
A product audit focuses primarily on the product or service and whether it meets defined quality requirements and is fit for its intended use. A process audit evaluates a specific process, activity or function against documented requirements. A system audit has a broader scope and evaluates multiple related processes and how they interact with one another.
| Audit Type | Primary Focus |
|---|---|
| Product Audit | Product conformity and fitness for intended use |
| Process Audit | Conformity of a specific process or activity |
| System Audit | Interaction between multiple related processes |

Resolving Electronic Data Processing Unit Failures through PCB Redesign
Introduction
This case study explores a significant challenge faced by our team when repeated failures plagued our electronic data processing unit (EDPU). Through diligent analysis and a recommendation for a comprehensive redesign of the printed circuit board (PCB) layout, we overcame the issue—ensuring the system’s reliability and longevity. In the fast-paced world of electronics, ensuring the reliability and stability of data processing units is of utmost importance.
The electronic data processing unit had been experiencing persistent failures during testing. Whatever action was taken to overcome the issue was yielding no results, as the moment test chamber temperature increased, the EDPU would stop functioning. The team reached an impasse. The reliability and performance were compromised, and it was crucial to identify and address the root cause of these failures. The customer requested our assistance, and our team began analyzing the problem, reviewing every aspect of how thermal management of the PCB was carried out.
We used an infrared thermal camera to observe heat dissipation across the board and identify whether an increase in thermal control was required. However, what we discovered at that moment was something entirely unexpected—something no one had previously considered.
Through thorough analysis and diagnostic testing, we identified that the root of the problem lay in the IC converter, a critical component of the EDPU. IC converters are electrical devices that convert voltage from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), enabling functions such as detecting amplitude-modulated radio signals and supplying polarized voltage. These components typically have a limited current overload capacity, which, if not managed properly, leads to severe performance issues.
In this case, the IC converter was not receiving adequate power due to improper selection and placement of the power supply system. Furthermore, during temperature variations, the converter was overheating, causing premature failures. It became evident that the improper power supply design and IC converter placement were the root causes.
